CEARES workshops

Budapest Workshop

The first CEARES workshop took place in Budapest at the EUROCONTROL CRDS facilities on the 6th and 7th of October 2008. Totally 37 people were present at the workshop in the conference/meeting room of EUROCONTROL CRDS including the invited presenters, the consortium members, the advisory board members and the network members. The CEARES consortium is proud that even Mr Andras Siegler (director of the Transport Directorate of DG Research, European Commission) could attend the event and held a very important presentation as keynote speech. The two-day event was divided into four sessions, chaired by members of the AB or of the consortium (namely Christian Pusch, Jean-Pierre Barthélemy, Marcial Valmorisco and Antonín Kazda).

Zilina Workshop

The 2nd CEARES Workshop was held in the Convention Hall of Zilina city in Slovakia, on the 18th and 19th of May, 2009. The event was hosted by the University of Zilina and by Prof. Antonín Kazda as main organiser. The totally five sessions had a common topic, Research Potentials and Perspectives of the Central European Area. The purpose of the workshop was to present large European projects, such as SESAR Joint Undertaking and projects and co-operation initiatives from the industry (Airbus) or from the region, such as CESAR project. Special attention was paid to the Northern countries of Central Europe, namely Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. The breaks and the session discussion periods gave opportunity for asking questions and for networking. The event attracted over 50 participants during the two days.

Bucharest Workshop

The 3rd CEARES Workshop was held at the National Institute for Aerospace Research “ELIE CARAFOLI” – INCAS, in Bucharest, Romania on the 16th and 17th of September 2009, and was entitled “Meet the Aeronautical Industry’s Needs – Networking Opportunities”.

This workshop focused sharply on the capacities and capabilities of Romania. The workshop was connected with an EqIMG meeting and the participants from CEARES countries had the opportunity to meet leading European industrialists. At the same time EqIMG representatives could visit the facilities of some of the leading Romanian aeronautical organizations and had an overview on Romania’s aeronautical potential.

Over 70 people participated at the WS including the invited speakers, the consortium members, advisory board members, network members and EqIMG members.

CEARES-SESAR Workshop

This event was planned to have a special focus contrary to the previous three ones.

The 4th CEARES Workshop was held at EUROCONTROL Budapest, on the 9th of December 2009. The workshop was initiated by Mr. Roland Gurály, CEARES co-ordinator, in order to start a dialogue between the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU), the Central European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) and the ATM researchers of the region. The subject of the workshop was to find out how and on what topics the Central European players can take part in the work of SESAR.

According to the workshop participants the event turned out to be very useful and interesting. It was a pioneering idea, because there has never been taken such regional initiative related to SESAR Joint Undertaking.

Vienna Workshop

The first workshop in the frame of the CEARES-NET project was organised by Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna on 13-14 October 2010. Among the participants of the event was Mr. Pablo Perez-Illana European Commission Research DG, Mr. Robert Lundberg Volvo Aero representing ASD-IMG4, Mr. Eric Dautriat, Clean Sky JU Executive Director, Ms Elisabeth Huchler on behalf of the Unit of Mobility and Transport Technologies within the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and numerous representatives of Aeronautical R&TD institutions from the Central European and Baltic states.

The representatives of the European Commission and the high level European aeronautical R&TD related organisations highlighted the possibilities provided by the upcoming calls and the directions of the of the further development. The representatives of the aeronautical R&TD from the other side showed their capabilities and fields in which they are expect to achieve further developments.

The successful two days event provided an excellent possibility for the participants to express their needs and intentions in field of aeronautical R&TD, to learn about important accents of the FP7 Aeronautics & Air Transport Research and beyond. The participant also had a good opportunity to participate in networking and to have B2B kind communication.

Warsaw Workshop

The second workshop in the frame of the CEARES-NET project was organised by the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw on 15-16 June 2011. The title of the workshop was “Towards innovation - The future of aeronautics” and it was organised in cooperation with SAT – Roadmap.

The organiser has invited the representatives of Polish Aeronautical NCP, Polish Aeronautical Research and Development, European Commission and representatives of numerous European initiatives like SESAR JU, CleanSky, Small Air Transport and CANNAPE.

The topic has addressed the possibilities for further innovation in the field of aeronautics and had special emphasis on the small air transport.

The CEARES Network members were also well represented trough various FP7 projects like TITAN or they were representing own organisations or institutes such as BUTE.

The workshop was divided into three well defined parts. During the first day on the general session the presenters have provided overview of the related topics in general. The second day the audience was organised in two smaller groups and issues of the Small aircraft strategy and Aeronautics programmes were discussed in detail during the two parallel sessions. This was followed by a panel discussion where the topics previously discussed were further elaborated in a more structured way.
